Something Going Down With The Market House

The much maligned Market House may be the center of attention once again. According to a press release from the city today, the city council will go into a closed session to discuss a legal issue related to the market house:

MEMORANDUM TO: Annapolis City Council

FROM: Regina C. Watkins-Eldridge, CMC., City Clerk

RE: Closed Meeting

A closed session of the City Council has been proposed for Monday, January 7, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. in the City Council Chamber, 160 Duke of Gloucester Street, 2nd Floor , Annapolis, Maryland 21401 in accordance with Maryland State Government Article Section:

10-508(a)(7) To consult with counsel to obtain legal advice on a legal matter.

To discuss the following topic:

The Market House

The Council will convene in open session and move pursuant to Maryland State Government Article, Section 10-508 (a)(7) to go into closed session as indicated above.

The ultimate vaguery of this press release leaves much to the imagination. My guess is one of the 3 following things is happening:

1. The city is being sued by one of the tenants for not fixing the air conditioning.

2. The city is suing the HVAC contractor for not building a proper air conditioning.

3. The city wants to break its contract with Site Realty, who operates the market house, in order to do something else with the market house.

Let's see what we can find out.
