Public Hearing Tonight

There is a public hearing tonight, and it starts at 7 pm. To see the agenda click here.

I will not be able to attend, as I have a campaign meeting for Fred Paone at the same time.

I would be interested to hear what people have to say about the Race Across America, which has been renamed by this blog as "The Triathlon Part 2, Except 5 Days Long". That's a long time to avoid downtown.

I sort of wish I was going, because I smell something quirky, if not fishy, regarding O-11-07. I thought that this was the ordinance that travels with the charter amendment establishing the Department of Economic Development, but now they are calling it the Department of Economic Affairs, which leads me to believe that this was a way around some law or provision that would otherwise ensure our safety.

We shall see.

I'm not sure why they changed it from Economic Development to Economic Affairs. Maybe they think Affairs gives them broader ability to blow even larger sums of money. After all "Development" implies that you'll actually accomplish something; whereas "Affair" suggests that you're just going for a roll in the hay.

What's really worrysome is the Surety provision in O-11. Where in the City Charter does it say that Annapolis should start backing private sector loans that lenders feel are too shakey to be fully guarateed by the borrower. I didn't know my tax dollars were going to be used to underwrite my foe's (Friends of Ellen) private business dealings.

Additionally, the Ordinance says that special privilege should be given to minorities, especially women. Why are we developing legislation that specifically requires racism and sexism. Plus, the last time I looked, women were in the majority. Maybe Moyer should worry more about content of ones character, rather than the color of their skin. That might have saved us a year and $5,000,000 on the Police Station.

Oh well, see you in Delaware for Christmas shopping.
